Why does Multi-Factor Authentication matter? |

|
October is cyber awareness month we’re reminding you about the importance of Multifactor Authentication (MFA).
It is a way of using more than one factor to confirm your identity when you try to sign in and gives extra protection to your accounts when your password is guessed or cracked.
Where available, multifactor authentication can be activated via your security settings in the relevant site or phone app.
There are three ways that authenticators work, they ask you something you have, know, or are.
The most common options are to authenticate via something you have:
You could be asked something you know when signing in to prove your identity, such as a password, PIN, a memorable place, or maiden names. Something you are means using biometrics such as fingerprints or face ID to sign in.
When multi factor authentication is used alongside a strong password it makes it difficult for hackers to attack your data.
